Dramatic Title Leaf for “The Alchemist” by Ben Johnson

This is the dramatic title leaf only, from the Workes of Benjamin Johnson, printed by Richard Bishop at London in 1640, three years after the death of the author.  It is from the second folio edition of the Elizabethan poet’s collected writings. Attending the title page is an information card from 1926, with the initials T.F.I. This is a rare piece of ephemera from the English Renaissance, and from a brilliant story of the Alchemist.
